East LA Community Rallies Behind Injured Deputy
EAST LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A community is rallying behind a LA County Sheriff's deputy that was wounded in the line of duty in January.
Deputy Mohammed Ahmed was shot in the face on Jan. 11 after only three weeks on the job.
Students from East LA after-school programs, community and business leaders and sheriff's deputies showed their affection Monday for Deputy Ahmed.
Several fundraisers benefitting the Ahmed family were help at So Cal Burgers, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and NuVision Federal Credit Union.
Community leaders say Ahmed is part of their family. All proceeds and donations from Monday's fundraisers will go to Ahmed's family.
Deputy Ahmed continues to be treated for his injuries.
