NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a 22-year-old mechanical engineering student from Irvine has been found dead in Newport Bay.
Newport Beach Police Sgt. Keith Krallman says a body was discovered floating in the bay near a restaurant Sunday morning.
The Orange County coroner’s office later said in a news release that the dead man was Alan Lin, a student at the University of California, Riverside who had been reported missing Wednesday.
Lin, who lived in Riverside during the week and returned to his family in Orange County on the weekends, had last been seen on Feb. 5 at a bar and grill about three blocks from where the body was found Sunday.
Authorities say they have not determined how Lin died. An autopsy is scheduled for later in the week.
