SANTA MONICA (CBS) — A 23-year-old driver was killed Saturday in an accident on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica.

The crash, which occurred about 3 a.m., took place in the 2000 block of Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Trisler said.

Authorities said the victim, who was identified only as a Santa Monica resident, may have racing another vehicle before driving into a palm tree.

Officers eventually located the other vehicle, which had been abandoned, Trisler said.

Santa Monica police asked anyone, who witnessed the crash, to call (310) 458-8495.

Yup. If he really was racing then Im glad he is dead. It could have just as easily been a person instead of a tree, and I doubt the driver would have stuck around had that been the case.
