Barbara Streisand To Be Honored As MusiCares Person Of The Year
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Barbara Streisand, an eight-time Grammy winner, actress, director, philanthropist and activist, will be honored Friday night as MusiCares Foundation's Person of the Year.
The event will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center at a gala event with performances by Tony Bennet, Seal, Donna Summer, BeBe Winans, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, LeAnn Rimes, Diana Krall, Barry Manilow, Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Darren Criss and Nikki Yanofsky.
"Barbra Streisand is a genuine Renaissance woman, someone for whom artistry and philanthropy go hand in hand," according to Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the MusiCares Foundation and The Recording Academy. "The enormous talent, passion and dedication she brings to her creative projects -- whether film, television or music -- are matched by the generosity and commitment she devotes to her charitable causes. It is fitting to celebrate the incredible legacy of Barbra at our 21st annual MusiCares Person of the Year tribute."
Streisand is the only performer to have a No. 1 album in five consecutive decades, according to the Recording Academy. She also tops female performers with 51 gold, 30 platinum and 18 multi-platinum albums.
Streisand, 68, has won Oscars for best actress in "Funny Girl" and best original song for "A Star is Born." She earned a Directors Guild of America nominations for directing "The Prince of Tides" in 1991.
Streisand also has a handful of Golden Globe awards, including the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Cecil B. DeMille Award.
The Streisand Foundation has donated millions of dollars to nonprofit groups, backing a range of causes including AIDS organizations, women's equality, human/civil rights, environmental groups and Jewish/Arab relations.
