Reward Issued In Murder Of Liquor Store Owner

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A $50,000 reward was offered Wednesday for information leading to the killers of a liquor store owner ambushed in front of his North Hollywood home in November.

The Los Angeles City Council approved the reward proposed by Councilman Tom LaBonge, who said, "Anyone that would murder a man in front of his home is an ongoing threat to the safety of the citizens of Los Angeles and must be apprehended."

Officials are hoping the reward will generate new leads.

Los Angeles Police Department Detective Mark O'Donnell said two men confronted Jong Kim around 1 a.m. Nov. 18 after he got out of his car at 10657 Chiquita St.

They shot Kim several times but did not take the nearly $2,000 that was in his pocket, according to the detective.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died two days later.

LAPD obtained video surveillance of the suspects' vehicle from a neighboring business. O'Donnell said it was a two-door 1988-1992 model Honda Prelude with a sunroof. The front half of the sedan was painted a dark color, and the other half was a lighter color.

He added there were three suspects in all, including the driver of the Honda.

Anyone with information about the slaying was urged to call O'Donnell at (818) 623-4075.
