OC Takes Sheriff's Pension Plan Fight To State Supreme Court
SANTA ANA (AP) — Orange County is taking its fight over a sheriff's pension plan to the California Supreme Court.
The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to continue a legal challenge to a plan that allows deputies who've worked for 30 years to retire at age 50 with 90 percent of their salaries.
The county sued the sheriff deputies' union in 2008, seeking to roll back retroactive portions of the plan that were passed seven years earlier.
The Orange County Register says the county has spent more than $2 million in what so far has been a losing battle.
But officials say the county could save as much as $500 million if it eventually wins the case.
