Driver Booked For DUI After Head-On Crash In San Gabriel

SAN GABRIEL (CBS) — Police say they have a drunken driver in custody after crashing his Range Rover head-on into a Honda in San Gabriel, critically injuring the lone driver of the car.

The collision, which involved three vehicles, occurred on San Gabriel Boulevard near Grand Avenue about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Kai Tian, 22, of Rosemead, was booked on suspicion of felony DUI, San Gabriel police Sgt. Antonio Hernandez said.

Tian, who was not injured, is being held on $20,000 bail pending a court appearance Thursday in Alhambra.

Police say Tian was driving south on San Gabriel Boulevard when he veered into oncoming traffic. His Range Rover hit a northbound Honda head-on, critically injuring the lone occupant, a man who was temporarily trapped in the wreckage.

A second Honda rear-ended the first Honda, but that motorist was not injured, police said.
