Armed, Suicidal Man Taken Into Custody After Cemetery Standoff

WHITTIER (CBS) — An armed, suicidal man was taken into custody Monday night following a short standoff with LosAngeles County sheriff's deputies outside Rose Hills Cemetery.

Deputies needed to use a Taser and a bean bag shotgun to subdue the man, according to KCAL9.

The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries from the car accident, KCAL9 reports.

Police believe the suspect had a gun but did not specify what type.

Late Monday, police sources told Stacey Butler, reporting for KCAL 9, that the man was distraught over the recent death of his mother.

They said the man carjacked a pickup truck of a Rose Hills worker, by gunpoint, and led police on a brief chase inside the cemetery.

Sources said the man flipped the car in an attempt to flee.

They also added they believed the man was under the influence of alcohol. He has been placed on a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation hold.
