85 Firefighters Keep Blaze Confined To Church In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A fire broke out in a church in Los Angeles Saturday, damaging the building.

Spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, Brian Humphrey said the fire that broke out on Long Beach Avenue at Visions of Heaven Church of God was reported at around 2 p.m.

Officials said 85 firefighters kept the blaze confined to the church and put it out in 24 minutes.

The fire was across the street from the Blue Line rail tracks, which were not affected.

The building, which is a single-story commercial building that has been converted to a church, was heavily damaged by the fire, authorities said.

"The fire was in the attic area of the building, so there was a partial roof collapse," Humphrey said. The damages were estimated at $86,000.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
