Laguna Niguel Woman, 20, Arrested For Allegedly Lying About Attempted Rape

LAGUNA NIGUEL (CBS) — A 20-year-old Laguna Niguel woman is behind bars Thursday night for allegedly making up a story about a rape attempt earlier in the week.

Orange County officials say Danielle Deichman was also arrested on charges of resisting arrest when deputies tried to take her into custody.

Jim Amormino of the OC Sheriff's Department says Deichman told investigators that a man tried to attack her Tuesday evening around 7:30.

She reportedly told them the man jumped out from behind some bushes, grabbed her from behind and was able to subdue her until she was able to kick him in the groin.

Armormino said in subsequent interviews with the alleged victim, inconsistencies in her story kept occurring.

At this point, he says, Deichman "basically admitted she lied."

He said when she was told that making a false report was a crime, she tried to bolt and had to be tackled.

Two deputies suffered minor injuries while tussling with Deichman.

Another woman reported a similar attack on January 25th in Laguna Hills and officials believe Deichman was just copycatting that woman's story.

Says Amormino, "We're outraged because [the hoax] caused a lot of undue fear in the community."

The attacker in the January 25th incident is still at large.
