Greuel Posts Salaries For LA City Officials

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — It's hundreds of pages long, but if you want to know where your tax dollars are going in the city of Los Angeles, a full list of who makes what is now available to the public.

Salary information for nearly 37,000 Los Angeles city employees was posted online on Thursday in a move City Controller Wendy Greuel said was designed to make local government more transparent.

The salaries listed in the database reflect reduced pay due to furloughs and other cutbacks, as well as increased pay due to overtime, bonuses, uniform and car allowances and other benefits, according to Greuel.

"Angelenos have a right to know how their taxpayer dollars are being spent, which is why I thought it was important for Los Angeles to set an example and post the salary of every city employee online," Greuel said.

According to the controller's office, Los Angeles is the largest city in the country to post a comprehensive list of employee salaries.
Calls for such disclosure increased after news broke about exorbitant salaries being paid to most Bell City Council members and some top city administrators.

The full database is available on the City Controller's website.
