Strong Winds Expected Across Southern California

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Strong and potentially damaging winds are moving into Southern California.

The National Weather Service says Wednesday's winds are being caused by strong high pressure building into the Great Basin. Wind gusts across the Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains could reach 60 to 70 mph with isolated gusts to 80 mph possible.

Forecasters say strong winds will also affect the Ventura County coast where gusts to 50 mph are expected. Gusts over 40 mph also are expected below passes and canyons from Malibu to Hollywood.

High wind warnings have been issued in many areas, including Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Forecasters say the gusts could make mountain travel difficult and could topple trees and down power lines.

The California Highway Patrol urges caution for drivers of high-profile vehicles.
