De'Anthony Thomas Chooses Oregon Over USC

CRENSHAW, Calif. (CBS) What an interesting turn of events!  The capper of the 2011 National Signing Day is Crenshaw RB/DB DeAnthony Thomas signing his National Letter of Intent and sending it to the University of Oregon.

There was much speculation about whether Thomas would back out of his committment to USC after taking a recent visit to Oregon.  Thomas has said he wanted to remain close to home.

It was thought to be a two-horse race between UCLA and USC.  Once Thomas grew cold on the Bruins, the thought was All Trojans all the Time.  Combined with the connection of his Godbrother, Mater Dei WR Victor Blackwell, and Mater Dei QB Max Wittek, SC appeared to be a done deal.  Not.  Whatever Chip Kelly was selling, Mamba was definitely buying.

Sources close to the situation tell me Thomas thought the Ducks were a good fit and their fast-paced, spread option attack would cater to his abilities.  Thomas wants to play offense and Oregon provides plenty of space for Mamba to utilize his speed.
