VAN NUYS (AP) — A 20-inch water main has burst in Van Nuys Tuesday, sending a torrent of water nearly two feet deep through residential streets and into apartments and businesses.

The Los Angeles Fire Department says the water main break was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Water invaded apartments and businesses, including a carpet store and a 7-Eleven convenience store. At least 60 people have been flushed out of their homes.

There are no injuries.

Department of Water and Power crews were still trying to plug the water main 90 minutes after it burst.

Too bad it isn’t warm enough for the neighborhood kids to enjoy this waterride adventure. When I was a kid there would have been a thousand kids from neighborhoods all around coming to play together.

Somewhere in Van Nuys. Great job “AP”.

Interesting how this happens at a time of contract negotiations. Come to think of it, all of the most recent major incidents happened during some form of contract negotiations.

  4. CMoore says:

I agree with Cougo- are there no more specific details on the exact location? If it was a more affluent neighborhood thre would be a lof more information.

Water mains break when pressure builds up in 100 year old lines. Maybe if the Van Nuysians took more baths no breaks…lol

  7. bdj says:

Maybe if the D.W.P. replaced the old infrastructer sooner, the breaks would not happen.
