San Bernardino Police Kill Man After Knife Attack

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — San Bernardino police have shot and killed a man they say held a knife to the throat of an elderly man.

Forty-three-year-old Richard Matus of San Bernardino was pronounced dead at a hospital Sunday night.

Authorities said that a man called 911 shortly before 8 p.m. and claimed that his life was being threatened.

Officers went to a home and forced their way into a bathroom where they saw a man holding a knife to the throat of a 73-year-old man.

An officer pulled the elderly man away and shot the attacker. There was no immediate word on the motive for the attack but the victim and the attacker apparently were acquaintances.
