GARDEN GROVE (AP) — A Garden Grove police officer stabbed during a robbery investigation shot and killed the
knife-wielding man.

The wounded officer has been treated at a hospital for a minor wound.

Investigators tell the Orange County Register that undercover officers were investigating a suspected robbery in progress and began questioning three people in a white sedan at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Lt. Jeff Nightengale says the officers had identified themselves as police when one of the people inside the car stabbed the officer with a knife. The wounded officer shot and killed the attacker.

Nightengale says the driver of the car fled, but the driver and other suspect in the car were stopped several blocks away and arrested.

Police have not identified the person who was killed.
