SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say the caretaker of a 93-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor has been arrested on suspicion of elder abuse after the veteran was found dirty, disoriented and living in filth in his San Diego County home.
The Sheriff’s Department says the caretaker, 63-year-old Milagros Angeles was arrested on Tuesday after deputies sent to check on the veteran’s welfare found the man suffering from dementia and dehydration.
The Los Angeles Times reports the veteran was found sitting in a chair clutching a picture of the ship, the USS Vestal, that he was serving on the day of the Japanese attack.
Deputies say they also discovered that thousands of dollars had been taken from the veteran.
Angeles is being held on $100,000 bail.

disgusting human being! forget life in prison, just hang her
Unfortunately, many elder abuse cases doesn’t get reported. it’s extremely disturbing that this is going on in society today..
It is ironic that this poor excuse for a human being will go to prison where she’ll get better treatment from the guards than she gave to this poor Pearl Harbor hero!
So sad… we as a society need to appreciate the sacrifices of all of our veterans. He has dementia but still knew enough to clutch the pic of the ship he served on. This man deserves more than what this POS gave him. She enjoys freedoms he fought for. God bless this vet!
have her pay for what she did,
This is HORRIBLE! I knew her while growing up there in our hometown Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. She came from a rich family. I just can’t believe she could do this to one of our heroes. We, Filipinos are known as very compassionate, hard-working and caring individuals. I still can’t BELIEVE of what she did…so AWEFUL!!! 😦 God will be the judge…and more blessings to this Veteran.
