LAKE ELSINORE (CBS) — One person was killed and another was critically injured Sunday morning in a house fire in Lake Elsinore.

Riverside County firefighters were sent to battle the blaze in the 17000 block of Baker Street at 5:24 a.m.

Five people were in the home when the fire broke out. One person was dead when firefighters arrived and another suffered major burns, but three people escaped without injury, Hendrickson said.

One firefighter also suffered minor injuries to his neck when an object fell on his head during the fire, spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The burn victim and the firefighter were taken to a local area hospital.

Firefighters believe the blaze originated near the home’s fireplace, but the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Hendrickson said.
