RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA (AP) — Prosecutors say they will not file charges over the shooting of a Newport Beach bail bondsman, killed when he arrived in the middle of the night at a female friend’s house and discovered another man there.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office determined there is not enough evidence to file criminal charges against Brian Scott Ostrom for the killing of Dean Patrick Maldonado last summer.
The Los Angeles Times said Saturday that prosecutors did not state whether they considered the shooting self-defense.
Maldonado owned Dean Maldonado Bail Bonds in Newport Beach. He was killed July 17 when he showed up at Linda Shaw’s home in Rancho Santa Margarita just before midnight.
Ostrom was in the home with Shaw and the two men got into a confrontation that ended with Maldonado being shot.
Investigators say Maldonado and Shaw had an off-and-on relationship for years.
