Westminster Boy, 8, Killed Biking On His Way To School

WESTMINSTER (CBS) —  An 8-year-old boy was fatally injured Wednesday when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle while biking to school in Westminster, police said.

Andrew Brumback, a third-grader at Sequoia Elementary School, was on his way to the campus when he was hit by the 2005 Ford Freestyle about 8 a.m.

He was struck in the intersection of Choctaw Drive and Iroquois Road, said Westminster police Cpl. Van Woodson.

The boy, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at Huntington Beach Medical Center, Woodson said.

The SUV's driver, Anita Cherry, 47, of Westminster, was unhurt and was not cited, pending the results of an investigation into the cause of the collision, Woodson said.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated accident, authorities say that a 70-year-old cyclist who was struck Monday in Arcadia has succumbed to his injuries.

Sun Yat was struck at the intersection of Baldwin and Longden Avenues after being broadsided by a driver going south on Baldwin. The accidenct occured about 4:08 p.m.

The driver remained at the scene.
