USC Mulls Takeover Of Classical Music Station
LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — Tommy Trojan may be ready to go Mozart.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the University of Southern California wants to purchase the Bay Area's only classical music station may soon become a nonprofit and permanently change its frequency on the FM dial.
The university would assume control of KDFC from Entercom Communications as a nonprofit and rely on donations instead of paid advertising to fund operations.
KDFC officials say the change would improve their financial outlook and position them to grow.
The station would also permanently move from 102.1 on the FM dial to 89.9 and 90.3.
The purchase still has to be approved by federal officials.
KDFC began operating on the new frequencies on Tuesday, displacing two radio stations, including KUSF at the University of San Francisco.
