School Upholds Expulsion Of HS Wrestler Accused Of Sexual Battery On A Teammate During Practice

CLOVIS (AP) —  Clovis school officials have moved to uphold the expulsion of a high school wrestler charged with sexual battery of a teammate during practice.

After hearing from the lawyer for the teen Wednesday evening, members of the Clovis Unified School District voted unanimously in favor of the expulsion.

The decision by the board comes after a three-member panel ruled last week that the 17-year-old had engaged in an obscene act while performing a wrestling maneuver. The panel recommended expulsion.

The teen's attorney, Charles Magill, maintains the maneuver was legitimate and commonly used in wrestling matches.

Magill is expected to appeal the expulsion to the Fresno County Office of Education.

The teen is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 27 on a sexual battery charge.

The Associated Press is not naming him because he is a minor.
