Huntington Beach Police Close To Identifying 1968 Murder Victim

HUNTINGTON BEACH (AP) — Police are honing in on the identity of a woman who was found dead in a ditch more than 40 years ago.

Detectives from the Huntington Beach Police Department said Sunday that the woman could be "Rosie," a woman who worked in Long Beach and had a strong New York accent. A woman by that name disappeared around the same time as the victim.

The woman, who was found on March 14, 1968, was also wearing Owego brand shoes, which were manufactured by the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company in upstate New York.

Police have circulated a sketch of the victim in New York City and sent information to New York state's Tioga County.

Authorities first made the connection to New York after posting the woman's sketch on Facebook.
