Landslide Still Blocks Pacific Coast Highway In Dana Point

DANA POINT (AP) — Clearing debris from Pacific Coast Highway lanes in Orange County is taking longer than expected.

Dana Point public works director Brad Fowler says dirt keeps sloughing off the hillside and northbound lanes won't reopen until Thursday evening.

Both directions of the highway were expected to be cleared by Wednesday evening. Southbound lanes were reopened at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

It's a legacy from the drenching December storm. Fowler says the downpours saturated the hillside and it gave way Tuesday, covering a 150-foot stretch of the northbound lanes of PCH between Palisades Drive and Camino Capistrano. Slides forced closure in the same area last month.

The section of road is in the Capistrano Beach area of Dana Point.
