Colin Firth To Receive 'Walk Of Fame' Star

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Colin Firth will receive the 2,429th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday.

Firth is a favorite for the best actor Academy Award for his portrayal of King George VI in "The King's Speech." Firth has received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award nominations for the role.

Firth was a best actor Oscar, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award nominee in 2010 for his performance in "A Single Man."

Born Sept. 10, 1960, in Grayshott, Hampshire, England, Firth was discovered while playing Hamlet during his final term at the Drama Centre in Chalk Farm. His first professional role was in 1983 as Guy Bennett in the West End production of "Another Country."

Firth's film credits include "Mamma Mia!" "Bridget Jones's Diary," "Shakespeare in Love," "The English Patient," "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Nanny McPhee" and "What a Girl Wants."
