City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana will recommend an additional 10 furlough days for employees who are already required to take either 16 or 26 days off without pay. He will also recommend additional cuts for the Fire Department.

In addition, he says the city needs to make $200 million to $300 million by leasing nine of its parking garages to private operators for 50 years. Of that amount, $53.2 million will be used to close most of the city's current budget gap.

The council, however, is under pressure from business and community groups that want to continue paying $2 at the Hollywood & Highland lot, and nothing at all at the Broxton lot in Westwood.

Without revenue from the parking garage lease, the city would be $62.7 million in the red. Another $350 million deficit looms in the next fiscal year.
