Suspicious Device Prompts Moorpark HS Evacuation
MOORPARK, Calif. (AP) — A suspicious device in a planter at Moorpark High School led to partial evacuation of the campus for more than an hour.
Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Frank O'Hanlon says the bomb squad determined it was a hoax device and the school returned to normal operations at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday.
A maintenance worker discovered the device, which had an electronic timer attached, partially buried in a planter outside the school's performing arts center at 7:33 a.m. The Ventura County Star was first to report the emergency.
The captain says a school resource officer then notified the bomb squad and ordered students to evacuate the area and go to the school gymnasium.
