Memorial Funds Established In Honor Of 9-Year-Old Shooting Victim

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A charitable memorial fund has been established in memory of 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green, who was among those killed in Saturday's shooting rampage in Arizona, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced Tuesday. Green's father, John, serves as a scout for the team.

The Dodgers also established an e-mail address (greenfamily@dodgers.com) for well-wishes and messages of support to the family. Letters can be sent to the Green family through the Dodgers, 1000 Elysian Park Ave., Los Angeles, 90090.

Green, who was born Sept. 11, 2001, was among six people killed Saturday in Tucson when a gunman opened fire on a crowd gathered to see Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. Giffords suffered a brain injury from a shot to the head, but was breathing on her own Tuesday.

Christina, who had just been elected to her elementary school student council, played second base as the only girl on a Little League team in Oro Valley, northwest of Tucson. She was a granddaughter of Dallas Green, the manager who led the Philadelphia Phillies to a World Series championship in 1980.

Green's father, John,  said he and his family established a charitable fund to honor his daughter's memory. The fund will be overseen by the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.

"Our family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for our sweet Christina," Green said. "This memorial fund will ensure her legacy for the children in our community."

Donations to the foundation in Christina's name can be made via the Community Foundation website, www.cfsoaz.org. Then click on the link to the Christina Taylor Green Memorial Fund.
