Woman Dead, Another Critically Injured In LA Apartment Fire

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — An apartment fire west of downtown claimed a woman's life, left a man in critical condition and displaced 10 others just west of downtown Friday.

The blaze broke out in a two-story building in the 1100 block of South Hoover Street shortly before 11 p.m. Friday. It took firefighters half an hour to put it out, Devin Gales of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

A woman taken to a hospital died, and a man was reported in critical condition due to unspecified injuries, Gales said.

Three other people were treated at the scene, he said.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the fire or damage estimates.

American Red Cross workers helped the displaced residents find temporary lodging.
