Report: LAUSD Board To Pick Superintendent

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles school board will reportedly vote next week on a new superintendent to lead the nation's second-largest school district.

The Los Angeles Times says John Deasy is expected to be appointed Tuesday to replace Ramon Cortines, who has been the district superintendent since 2008. Deasy joined the district in August as top deputy to Cortines.

The 50-year-old Deasy had worked for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he oversaw efforts to revamp how teachers are evaluated.
