S.F. Police Shoot Man In Wheelchair After Officer Stabbed

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Police say a knife-wielding man in a wheelchair stabbed an officer before the attacker was shot on a San Francisco street.

Officers were called to the Department of Public Health building Tuesday morning by witnesses who said the highly agitated man was slashing tires on parked cars.

An arriving officer was stabbd in the shoulder.

Police Chief George Gascon says officers tried to subdue the man with pepper spray and eventually a bean bag round before the shooting.

The San Francisco Chronicle says the man got out of the wheelchair and walked around at one point.

Gascon released a witness cell phone video showing four officers surrounding the suspect in his wheelchair before the shooting.

The suspect and wounded officer, whose names are being withheld, are hospitalized with non life-threatening wounds.
