Woman, Teen Accused Of Stealing Mail From Evacuated Highland Homes
HIGHLAND (AP) — A woman and a teenager have been arrested for allegedly stealing mail from Highland residents evacuated from their homes due to recent mudslides.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says 35-year-old Amanda Nieblas was booked Tuesday on suspicion of receiving stolen property. The 17-year-old boy was cited and released to a parent.
They were arrested in the early morning hours after a deputy guarding homes partially buried in mud noticed the pair pull into a driveway and walk toward a home.
He confronted them and found Nieblas had numerous outstanding warrants. A search of the car turned up burglary tools and mail belonging to evacuated homes.
Nieblas is being held on $425,000 bail.
