Josh Rubenstein's Weather Forecast (December 30)

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — It's a windy and cold morning for many residents in Southern California. The low that gave us rain yesterday is now moving into the middle of the nation.

A ridge is pushing in behind the low creating a very tight pressure gradient. That's just a fancy way of saying windy conditions. Expect fierce winds in the Antelope Valley and along the I-5 corridor this morning. The winds diminish somewhat by the middle of the day.

There are some clouds up over the mountains... with the low snow level that means treacherous travel through the passes.

We are expecting another chance at showers as low pressure center moves late New Year's Eve. It will effect folks along the Central Coast first, our chance at some rain occurs late New Year's Day. Still fuzzy on how big of a rain producer this system will be. - Josh

Today's Temps:

Coastal - mid to upper 50s

Basin - mid 50s

Valleys - low 50s

Deserts - upper 30s to low 40s

Mountains - low 20s
