No Bail For Suspect In Koreatown Robberies

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 40-year-old man was arrested in a series of strong-arm robberies in apartment building parking structures and businesses in Koreatown, Los Angeles police said Wednesday.

Sammy Johnson is locked up without bail, pending arraignment on multiple robbery charges, police said.

Police said Johnson, who was found with a wig and a cap, may have been working with an unidentified partner. He is suspected of waiting for people to drive into apartment building parking garages and sneaking through the gate behind them.

It was unclear if an actual gun was used, but victims told police the robber simulated a gun Johnson was caught driving away from a Dec. 16 robbery about 12:10 a.m. in the 400 block of Western Avenue, police said.

Most, if not all, of the victims were of Korean descent, police said.

In the silver-colored 1999 Dodge Intrepid he was driving, police said they found an apparent disguise that may have been used in two restaurant robberies on Olympic Boulevard.

Anyone with more information about the crimes was asked to call detectives at (213) 382-9463.
