Compton Teen, 16, Killed In Gang-Related Shooting

COMPTON (CBS) —  Authorities said a 16-year-old boy was killed Wednesday in an apparent gang-related shooting in an unincorporated area near Compton.

Homicide detectives were sent to investigate the shooting in the 2100 block of East Piru Street, at 10:14 a.m., said Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

Two youths were walking when a light colored sedan pulled up alongside of them and stopped.

One male armed with a handgun got out and shot a 16-year-old and then got back in the car which left eastbound on Piru.

The teen was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. His companion was not hurt.

Homicide detectives believe the the shootings were gang-related. They are not releasing the victim's name.
