DESERT HOT SPRINGS (AP) — Officials say a Desert Hot Springs police patrol car has struck and killed a pedestrian as he tried to cross a street away from a crosswalk.
The California Highway Patrol said Tuesday that a marked police car was responding to a call and heading down Palm Drive at about 45 mph Monday night.
For unknown reasons, a man in dark clothing was trying to cross the road. He was not at a crosswalk and was struck by the police car.
The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
