LA County Sees Increase In Holiday DUIs

LOS ANGELES (CBS) —  The California Highway Patrol reports that 83 people were arrested for driving under the influence this holiday weekend compared to 72 during the first 36 hours of Christmas in 2009.

On the plus side, the number of arrests statewide dipped from 552 last year to 507 this year.

Despite the inclement weather, the CHP also logged no fatalities in Los Angeles County -- or statewide -- during the first 36 hours of Christmas weekend.

The recording period ended at 6 a.m. today.

During the same period last year, no one died on Los Angeles County roads patrolled by the CHP -- freeways, as well as some state highways and county roads -- but 11 people died in wrecks statewide during the same period in 2009.
