AZUSA (AP) — Four hikers stranded deep in the San Gabriel Mountains are safe after being rescued by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter crew.
Dispatch supervisor A. Jackson says the four were found late Wednesday night in the area of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. They did not require medical attention.
The four were identified as two men in their 30s from Lake Forest, a 33-year-old man from Orange and a 23-year-old woman from Costa Mesa.
They were reported stranded by weather and debris flows in the Heaton Flats Ranger Station area on Sunday.
Rescuers had been unable to get to the area because of dangerous flying conditions and treacherous water and debris flows.
