Search Continues For 4 OC Hikers Missing In Angeles National Forest

SAN DIMAS (CBS) — Authorities hope to resume a search Thursday for four missing Orange County residents who were last seen hiking in the Angeles National Forest.

Bad weather conditions have limited searchers on the ground and air from finding the four, described as three men and one woman. Two of the men are from Lake Forest, one 34, the other 31. Another man, 33, hails from Orange. The lone female, 23, is from Costa Mesa.

The four were last seen Sunday before major storm systems moved into the San Gabriel mountain area.

Mountain rescue and helicopter personnel have been unable to get to the area where the hikers are believed to have taken refuge because of the poor weather and treacherous water and debris flows, said Deputy Lillian Peck of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

Weather permitting, a planned rescue operation involving two helicopters and a ground rescue team will be launched in the morning, Peck said.
