The 6-month-old girl is recovering at a hospital. She suffered a punctured lung, a punctured liver and two broken ribs in Monday's attack.

Police say the mother had the baby on her shoulder and was talking with a neighbor on the neighbor's porch when the dog rushed out of the house and grabbed the child.

The adults chased the dog about 100 yards before it dropped the child and ran home.

The dog was impounded. Police said it had no history of aggressive behavior.
