241 Cats Seized From Storage Space In Pasadena

PASADENA (AP) — Pasadena Humane Society officers say they have seized 241 crated cats that were being kept in a private storage space.

Officials say they got a tip from volunteers helping 62-year-old Tanya Regan of Temple City care for the animals. She usually went after midnight to feed them.

Regan was cited and released on her own recognizance. Society spokeswoman Ricky Whitman told the Pasadena Star-News they will pursue animal cruelty and neglect charges.

Twenty officers wore gas masks Wednesday to remove the cats from the rented Altadena Drive building. Most of the cats were stacked in filth-crusted cages. Officers say several dead cats were found in a freezer and nine cats and two dogs were seized from Regan's Temple City home.

Regan could not be reached immediately for comment.
