Oxnard Officer Shoots Pit Bulls During Foot Chase

OXNARD (AP) — Authorities say an Oxnard police officer shot two pit bulls when they charged him as he chased their owner. One dog died, the other was wounded.

Police told the Ventura County Star in a prepared statement that officers were trying to serve a vandalism warrant Monday at the home of Adair Dzul.

The statement says the officer was in an alley when Dzul ran out of his fenced yard, then back, leaving the gate open.

When the officer started to run after Dzul, police say the two dogs charged the officer.

Oxnard Animal Safety officers took the wounded dog for medical treatment.

The 25-year-old Dzul surrendered and was booked into the Ventura County Jail for investigation of possessing concentrated cannabis and the warrant for felony vandalism.
