Dodgers Need To Focus On Trading For Greinke

(CBS) -- It's Zack Greinke, or as the teens are saying, "Fail"  for the Dodgers' offseason.

No, I'm not particularly excited for a platoon in LF of Jay Gibbons, Xavier Paul and Tony Gwynn Jr.

How about the infield of James Loney, Juan Uribe, Rafael Furcal and Casey Blake, with Rod Barajas catching?

Offense will be a problem, but if the Dodgers get big years from Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, the lineup is better than the champs from last season, but with a huge caveat;  The Giants had Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain.

Two guys that can get you a win when you score just two runs a game.

Which brings us to the rotation: Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley, Hiroki Kuroda, Ted Lilly and Jon Garland; Not too bad. In fact, the rotation was the only thing that kept the Dodgers in the hunt for most of the season last year.

But you need two  front of the rotation guys that teams fear. Kershaw may be one of them, but if the Dodgers can swing a deal with Kansas City for Greinke... Kershaw and Greinke at the top would make the Dodgers instant contenders.

Otherwise, the team is going to need a CY Young type season from Chad Billingsley (which could happen).

If you believe the rumors, the Dodgers are after Greinke but any deal involving Kansas City's star may not get done until the July 31st trading deadline.
