OC Fire Stations Urge Public To Drop Off Christmas Toys

ANAHEIM (CBS) — Fire stations throughout Orange County are asking for contributions of new unwrapped toys and gift cards for the Christmas season, warning the need for toys this year is up dramatically amid a soaring jobless rate and an anemic economy.

Lynnette Round, Community Relations Supervisor with the Orange County Fire Authority tells KFWB's Penny Griego and Phil Hulett that it doesn't take much time or money to help out those in need this Christmas.

Several programs have combined to form The Orange County Toy Collaborative, including the Orange County Firefighters' Spark of Love toy drive, the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program, Orange County Social Service Agency's Operation Santa Claus program and the St. Vincent de Paul holiday charities program.

Overall, these campaigns are expected to distribute over 300,000 toys for needy children and families throughout Orange County this Christmas season.
