It's Winter? SoCal Basks In Summer-Like Heat

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Forecasters say Santa Ana winds blowing in from offshore could send Southern California temperatures to near-record levels Sunday.

Jamie Meier of the National Weather Service says downtown Los Angeles could see a high of 82 degrees. The record for Dec. 12 is 86 degrees in 1895.

Temperatures across the Los Angeles area are expected to remain in the 80s until a cooling trend begins Tuesday.

High winds came ashore Saturday, gusting above hurricane force at Whitaker Peak. City News Service says gusts at the mountaintop near Castaic Lake hit 78 miles an hour.

Winds topped 50 miles an hour in a number of mountainous areas before diminishing late Saturday.
