Police Chase Stolen Minivan Suspect Through Orange County
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police pursued a suspect in a stolen minivan on the southbound 5 Freeway through Orange County Wednesday night.
The high-speed chase went more than an hour and hit various freeways including the 5, 10, 210, 57 and then back on the 5.
Police said the chase started around Fontana a little after 9 p.m. when police compared the plates of the minivan reportedly stolen recently from a mall parking lot.
Aaron Fitzgerald, reporting overhead in Sky9, said the driver had a passenger. He also reported the minivan was clocked at more than 80 mph.
The passenger, a woman, ended up bailing on foot. Her relation to the driver was unknown.
The minivan's tires were partially blown out by a spike strip. The suspect continued to drive, albeit as slow as 20 mph, on rims that were often shown shooting off sparks.
The driver was taken into custody.
Earlier Wednesday a chase suspect, in a white Infiniti, led police on a nearly one-hour chase through the San Fernando Valley.
After his capture, police identified the man only as a wanted parolee.
