Report: Dodgers Sign Tony Gwynn Jr.

(CBS) -- There are reports the Los Angeles Dodgers have signed OF Tony Gwynn Jr. to a one-year, $675,000 deal.

Gwynn Jr. is the son of Hall-of-Famer, Tony Gwynn.

Last season Gwynn Jr. stole 17 bases and hit .204 for the San Diego Padres.

GM Ned Colletti told dodgers.com, '"He's not a big-time bat that would shock the world, but he's somebody I think we really need."

Gwynn will compete with Xavier Paul for a starting job in LF, assuming nobody else is signed by the team.

Other Notes: Vicente Padilla will be back with the Dodgers, as a releiver, assuming he passes a physical.

-The Dodgers have inquired about a trade with the Kansas City Royals for P Zack Greinke.
