Board Of Supervisors Approves 10 Guidelines For Safer Raves
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved 10 new guidelines designed to make raves safer.
The new guidelines are not laws, but the Supervisors planned to send letters to sponsors, promoters and venue operators, urging them to adopt the new measures.
Last week, the commission that controls the Sports Arena and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, agreed last week to implement the recommendations.
The guidelines include:
-- require all rave goers to be at least 18
-- giving wristbands to those 21 and over so bartenders and concession workers can easily see who is of legal drinking age
-- instituting "cool-off" breaks during the show
-- closing down all raves by 2 a.m.
-- briefing staff on signs of heat exhaustion and drug overdoses
-- requiring medical personnel be on site in the event of an emergency
-- offering warnings about Ecstasy and other drugs during PSA's and hand outs during the venue
The Coliseum had enacted a moratorium on raves when 15-year-old Sasha Rodriguez overdosed on Ecstasy after attending the Electric Daisy Carnival at the arena. The commission lifted the moratorium on Nov. 3.
The next rave scheduled at the Coliseum is New Year's Eve.
