WESTWOOD (AP) — Will Cherry scored 18 points and Brian Qvale added 13 to lead Montana to a 66-57 victory over UCLA Sunday night.

The victory was the Grizzlies’ first over the Bruins in five games between the two teams.

UCLA (3-4) was hopeful that returning home would help stop a losing streak, but instead lost its fourth in a row.

The Bruins were coming off a confidence-building, one-point loss at No. 4 Kansas but weren’t able to find their groove against the Grizzlies.

Montana (4-3) held the Bruins to 28 points in the first half by cutting off the inside pass and using a collapsing defense when UCLA was able to get the ball into the paint.

The Bruins didn’t do much to help their own cause, shooting 37 percent (10 for 27) from the field in the opening frame.

Many misses were on layups, when the Bruins were able to get the ball in the paint.

Montana was equally as aggressive on offense and had little trouble getting the ball inside against UCLA.

The Bruins used a 10-0 run early in the first half to take a 17-14 lead, but Montana stuck to its game plan and took a 32-28 lead at halftime.

The trend continued as the Bruins shot even worse in the second half.

The Grizzlies took control after the break and led by as many as 17 points with 8:17 remaining.

Qvale added 10 rebounds to his 13 points for his first double-double of the season.

Montana shot 61 percent in the second half and finished at 52 percent.

The Bruins were held to 37 percent shooting in the first half and finished the game at 31.3 percent.

Malcolm Lee and Tyler Honeycutt led the Bruins with 11 points apiece. Honeycutt scored 33 points in the 77-76 loss to the Jayhawks on Thursday, connecting on five 3-point baskets, but went 2-for-8 from 3-point range against the Grizzlies.
