Report: Slain Riverside Officer Was Beaten, Shot

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Court documents say a Riverside police officer killed during a chase slipped and was struck in the head with a metal bar before he was shot with his own gun.

The documents were released Tuesday.

Earl Ellis Green of Rubidoux is charged with killing Officer Ryan Bonaminio on Nov. 7. The Press-Enterprise reports that Green, who has a long and violent criminal history, is undergoing a mental evaluation.

Prosecutors say he killed the 27-year-old officer after stealing a big-rig truck and getting in a hit-and-run accident.

The court documents say a witness saw Bonaminio slip and fall into a planter near a park during the chase. The witness said an attacker hit Bonaminio on the head several times with a metal bar and fired at least three shots before fleeing.
